CNN-IBN’s ‘Citizens for Earth’ returns for a 2nd season
CNN-IBN’s flagship programming on environment ‘Citizen for Earth’ is returning with the 2nd season starting Saturday, November 22nd, 2008. The new season brings stories from the farthest corners of the country encapsulated in five episodes on India's most endangered wild animals. The series led by Bahar Dutt, Environment Editor, CNN-IBN goes to desolate interiors of Rann of Kutch, Chambal, Assam, Tripura, Orissa etc to bring the stories of struggle for animal survival.
The new season of ‘Citizens for Earth’ also celebrates the contribution of the people who have dedicated their lives to protect endangered wild animals and looks at a day in their lives. Additionally, the series captures the issue of human-wildlife conflicts and possible solutions to protect India's most endangered animals. Catch ‘Citizen for Earth’ every Saturday 9.30 PM and every Sunday at 5.30 PM.The episodes include : Storm in the Rann The episode will take viewers on a jeep safari through the Rann to bring how pink flamingoes and Indian wild Banned Word survive the harsh landscape of the desert. The wild Indian Banned Word is an endangered animal and found only in this part of Gujarat. Queen of Chambal The episode highlights the story of the Indian Gharial which has just been put on the critically endangered list as last year a mysterious disease wiped out over a hundred of them in Chambal River. The episode travels down the Chambal on a boat to meet wildlife conservationists and activists who are fighting to save the Indian Gharial. Monkey Mania The episode introduces never heard of species of monkeys like the ‘Hoolock Gibbon’ and the ‘Golden Langur’ found in the North East. The episode takes viewers in a trek down the thick tropical forests of Assam and Tripura to meet local communities highlighting their efforts to save species found in this part of the country. Big Cat Special India is home to several charismatic big cats like the Tiger, the Lion and the Leopard. The episode examines why each of these Big cats are on the brink - and also explore if the big cats can survive in increasingly human dominated forests. Turtle Trouble The beaches of Orissa are home to nature’s most magical phenomenon - mass nesting of the Olive Ridley Turtles. And yet because of over fishing and developments along the coast, the Olive Ridley Turtles are dying en-masse. This year because of the threats, the mass nesting did not happen. The episode highlights how Orissa's shores can be protected so that these pre-historic creatures, the Olive Ridley Turtles continue to lay their eggs. “Wildlife is an integral and crucial element of the environment and with expansion of human population, it is in danger. Our special series is an attempt to bring up issue of endangered species and show case the people’s contribution in fighting for the cause.” said Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in Chief, IBN Network.
