The second edition of the Kabaddi World Cup, to be held from 1 to 20 November and which the Punjab state government is again hosting, offers a whopping Rs 20 million to the winning team, a straight doubling of what was up for grabs last year. This was announced by Punjab deputy chief ninister and tournament chairman Sukhbir Singh Badal in Chandigarh on Thursday. Badal noted that this year, besides the men's event, four women teams will vie for a prize purse of Rs 2.5 million in the tournament.
The tournament is to be held in various centres across the state, with some games being played in daylight and some under floodlights. Badal said the runners-up would get Rs 10 million and the team finishing third would be richer by Rs 5.1 million.
Additionally, each participating team will get Rs 1 million.

Besides hosts India, the other countries competing include Pakistan, USA, Canada, UK, Italy, Norway, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, Argentina, Germany and Spain. "Around 17 to 18 countries
approached us to participate in this tournament," newswire PTI quotes Badal as having said.

The opening ceremony is to be held at Bathinda and will see Shahrukh Khan performing.
The Bollywood superstar is
currently in the middle of a
marketing blitzkrieg to pump up the volume around his just released home production Ra One.

The World Cup closing ceremony will take place in
Ludhiana.
