Today in an environment conscious world, when local and global green initiatives are gaining serious momentum, it is very encouraging to see more and more people talking about environmental issues and taking initiatives in providing effective and eco-friendly solutions.

In a special series “Green Heroes”, HSBC, the world’s local bank and CNN-IBN, India’s best English news channel are joining hands to bring innovative work of individuals and organizations, who came up with the ideas beyond the regular activities for environment conservation. The series also explores the opportunities of replicating these ideas at mass level to bring about a positive contribution towards the environment. Green Heroes airs every Saturday 4.30 pm with repeat on Thursday 5.30 pm.
The six episode series starts with two episodes showcasing breakthrough innovations like Herbal pesticide, a special formulation free of highly toxic chemicals which can eliminate pests from attacking food crops. Bamboo Windmill, a low cost alternate source of energy for irrigating saltpans compared to conventional method of lifting ground through diesel pumps. A SMS/Phone Operated Water Pump invented in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh, which saves farmers long walk to the fields, water and electricity. A Solar Power Colony in Kolkata, which runs on solar power for all its energy requirements. The series also covers other interesting innovation like Powerless fridge, Low Power AC and Cold Storage from fodder.
The next four episodes of Green Heroes feature simple innovations and initiatives which made a radical difference in the lives of people.” Green Heroes” brings forth people like Madhav, a fourteen year school boy from Mumbai who, understood the importance of Mangroves trees to save the city from floods and started sensitizing people about saving the species. Vijay Jardhari, who has been reviving traditional seeds of India to grow without chemicals,also conducts workshops on sustainable and organic agriculture.
Vimla Bahuguma, wife of great environmentalist Sunderla Bahuguna who gave momentum to Chipko movement by bringing larger participation of women and walked shoulder to shoulder with Sunder Lal Ji during the campaign. Nita Shah, a wild life biologist who is putting her endeavors to save the world’s most powerful scavengers, the vultures and sensitizing masses about their importance in the cycle of ecosystems. Madhu Bhatnagar, the green teacher who charted out an environment education policy so that young minds can be educated on environmental issues.
