Watch exclusive footage of the biggest oil leak disaster on Discovery Channel on Monday, August 02 at 9 pm -
New Delhi, July 30, 2010: Recorded as one of the worst environmental catastrophes in American history, BP oil leak crisis has been making headlines since its explosion. Millions of gallons of oil has poured out of a broken pipe a mile a beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. The leak has created a massive and unpredictable slick, threatening hundreds of miles of coastline.
For the first time ever, Discovery Channel in its special one-hour programme ‘Disaster In The Gulf: A Race Against Time’ gives an exclusive look inside the BP’s crisis center in Houston, Texas as the engineering response teams work round the clock to stop the gushing oil.
To air on Monday, 2nd August at 9 pm on Discovery Channel, ‘Disaster In The Gulf: A Race Against Time’ captures never-seen-before footage of the rig explosion, astonishing eyewitnesses’ accounts and interviews with senior BP executives, US Coastguards and engineering experts to give an account of the devastation and enormity of the crisis.Featuring some of the most shocking images of the destruction, Discovery Channel brings visuals of the Deepwater Horizon succumbing to the flames and sinking into the bottom of the Gulf. The programme reveals the initial investigation as the crew attempts to activate the Deepwater Horizon’s B.O.P. (the blowout preventer) in the moments after the gas on the rig got ignited. What began as an accident investigation, quickly turned into an urgent mission to figure out where the oil was coming from?
The programme examines the operations as the engineers dispatch ROV’s (remote operated vehicles) to assess the damage to the well. The cameras capture the visuals of the wreckage at 5,000 thousand feet beneath the surface, where the pressure is 150 times greater than on land – impossible for divers to reach.
‘Disaster In The Gulf: A Race Against Time’ explores some of the unanswered queries around the biggest oil spill, to find out – what exactly went wrong, how much oil has been pouring into the Gulf and the economic and environmental consequences it has caused.
