Radio One Listeners SAILebrated ‘Women’s Day’ riding the waves!

Mumbai, March 2010: Jet, set and go! Seems to be the mantra of the modern day woman. A woman constantly jugging between household chores and challenging careers is increasingly finding it very difficult to find any ‘Me’ time.

As part of the Women’s Day celebration, 94.3 Radio One gave 8 such lucky women to break free and set sail with Aquasail, India’s premier leisure boating company. All the women needed to do was participate in the contest ‘SAILebrate Women’s Day’ on Radio One and land themselves a chance to sail along with the Radio One MJs Prachi, Yamini, Meetu and Gya.

The “SAILbrate Women’s Day” saw participants from different walks of life and people from varied professions like lawyers and doctors to a housewife who wanted to be part of the initiative. The day dedicated to women with élan and attitude started off at the Gateway where the women were ferried in speedboats to yachts. The session started off with an interactive briefing on sailboats and their operations. This was followed by a practical introduction to sailing and a small race between the yachts. A small meeting amongst the participants on women’s empowerment was conducted by Mrs Zia Hajeebhoy, Director, Aquasail and MJ Prachi.

Said Meena, one of the winners, “All of us were extremely anxious when we first got into the yacht but soon the nervousness eased out and we were a super time sailing. I’m really thankful to Radio One and Aquasail for having given us this once in a lifetime opportunity which we’ll cherish forever”.

MJ Prachi who spoke extensively on women’s empowerment said, “As women we rarely get a chance to partake in activities that are male dominated; sailing being one of them. This initiate was Radio one’s way of saying that today’s’ Indian woman is equally empowered and is all set to reign in what they call a ‘Mans’ World”.

Bavesh Janavlekar, Station Head Mumbai commented, “This was a great opportunity to have a first ever sailing experience extended to our loyal women listeners and we couldn’t have found a better day than Women’s Day to thank them. We would continue in our endeavor to provide opportunities to our listeners to experience such unique initiatives”.
