Delhi joins hands with Pratigya
In a human chain at Jesus & Mary College, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, eminent personalities and 500 women from the City pledge their support at the Human Chain
NEW DELHI, March 8, 2009: How a society deals with issues like crime and injustice says a lot about it. Some choose to be bystanders and watch what is happening, some grumble but do not get involved, only the strong willed raise their voice against injustice. With the crime graph rising against women by the day, women from all walks of life came together today, on International Women’s Day to pledge their support for disrespect against women in a novel initiative taken by STAR Plus – “I support Pratigya”. As a part of this initiative, a Human Chain was organized at Jesus and Mary College, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, to gather support from women in the City to sign up for this Campaign.
Led by the protagonist, Pratigya (Pooja Gor) from STAR Plus “Mann Ki Awaaz… Pratigya”, the human chain gathered support from hundreds of women who joined hands and stood together for the cause. This Human chain also attracted prominent women personalities from Delhi, Zila Khan – Noted Sufi Singer, Feroze Gujral – Entrepreneur and Founder of Gujral and Cultivate Foundation, Madhu Jain – Famous Fashion Designer, Dr. Shyama Chona – Senior Educationist, Arti Mehra – Ex Mayor of Delhi and Neelam Pratap Rudy – Golfer & Activist, came together to pledge their support against harassment and disrespect towards women.
“I support Pratigya”, is an endeavor to create awareness through discussions and forums which will educate women on how they need to tackle issues pertaining to their problems in day-to-day lives.
The first leg of this campaign flagged-off in Mumbai on Dec 23, 2009 followed by Lucknow and Kanpur recently. It received overwhelming response with 500-600 women joining the Human Chain in each of these Cities.
Commenting on this initiative, Spokesperson, STAR India Pvt Ltd said, ‘This is the first time any channel has come up with such an initiative to connect with their audiences. The idea is to take our brand values beyond television and impact and enrich our viewer’s lives. This initiative not only strives to reinforce the cause highlighted in “Mann Ki Awaaz…Pratigya”, but also asks women to stand up and fight back to claim their due respect’.
Pratigya (Pooja Gor) is not only taking a stand against the cause in real life but also dealing with a similar situation in reel life in STAR Plus’s “Mann Ki Awaz…Pratigya” when she is led into marrying Krishna, her stalker and tormentor. What will Pratigya do? What should any women do when pushed to such a situation?
To Know More, watch Pratigya, Mon-Fri at 10.30 pm only on STAR Plus.
