BIG 92.7 FM educates Nanhi Kalis this World Literacy Day
Famous Sarod Players – Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan endorses BIG FM’s Literacy Campaign
Delhi, September 8, 09: Keeping upto its tagline of “Suno Sunao, Life Banao”, BIG 92.7 FM, had conceptualised a ‘Music For a Cause’ campaign this Literacy Day. As part of this campaign BIG FM sponsored 10 girl child’s education on behalf of 10 lucky Delhi-ites who won the musical on-air contest, based on the same theme. BIG 92.7 FM has partnered with ‘Nanhi Kali’ – the leading NGO which focuses on girl child education. To solemnize this noble initiative, the brother duo and famous Sarod players, Amaan Ali Khan & Ayaan Ali Khan presented the cheque to the ‘Nanhi Kali’ representatives.
Coined as ‘Music with a Cause’, a two-day long contest on the eve of the International Literacy Day, invited the interested listener volunteers to support this cause by participating in the contest. There were ten winners of the contest and BIG FM on behalf of each of the winner sponsored the education of one girl child from ‘Nanhi Kali’ for a year. The campaign was aimed to stimulate and sensitize its listeners towards the similar problems in the society and that with everyone’s small efforts; a huge societal challenge can be addressed.
The sarod maestros entertained the listeners with their wits, and interesting anecdotes, while emphasizing on the need of education. Known for their warm and caring nature, Amaan and Ayaan spent quality time with the girls from the NGO and had a gala time with the RJ, whose played numbers which were quite a treat for the listeners and the kids.
Commenting in this campaign, Mr. Ashwin Padmanabhan, Station Director – BIG 92.7 FM Delhi, said, “Education is a fundamental right of every child, but it’s unfortunate that despite various steps being taken, a large number of children are deprived of this basic right and especially the girls due to the society’s stereotype notions. Hence, as a mark of our small contribution to the society, we initiated the meaningful campaign ‘Music for a Cause’, that not only sponsored education for a few girl children, but also reinforced the idea to the general public to come forward and help these underprivileged kids ”
