Celebrating the patriotic spirit that surrounds Independence Day, Zee Studio has some interesting English films with a desi connect coming your way every Sunday afternoon @ 3 all through August. Worthy of note amongst the list are Second Generation, The Bong Connection, My Bollywood Bride and 13th Floor.
Featuring stalwarts like Anupam Kher and Om Puri, Second Generation is a modern reworking of King Lear, where a businessman lies in coma while 2 of his daughters plan to turn off his life support machine and sell his business. His third daughter has his best interests at heart but is estranged from the family.
With, Kashmira Shah, Sanjay Suri and Gulshan Grover and ‘Sex And The City’ star Jason Lewis, My Bollywood Bride is a romantic comedy that tells the story of Alex, a copy-writer who falls in love with Indian beauty Reena, while she is vacationing in California. Torn between her blossoming feelings for Alex and her Indian family values and obligations, Reena returns home without saying goodbye. Alex, distraught by the turn of events, decides to follow her to Mumbai and win her back. The trouble is, Alex couldnt be more out of his element on the sub-continent, not helped by the fact Reena had kept something very important about herself from him – the fact that she’s the top Bollywood film star – the Julia Roberts of India! A laugh riot not worth missing, the film airs on Zee Studio on Sunday, 16th August at 3 PM.
The Bong Connection is a light-hearted yet insightful drama that celebrates the spirit of being a Bengali. Directed sensitively by Anjan Dutta, the film explores the psyche of NRI bongs, life for them in Kolkata and abroad. With inspired performances by Raima Sen and Shayan Munshi, you don’t wanna miss this one at 3 PM on Sunday 23rd August at 3 PM.
On Sunday 30th August at 3 PM, it’s time to see VJ and actor Luke Kenny don the directorial hat in 13th Floor, a unique experimental film shot in an elevator stuck, as the name suggests, on the 13th floor and the conversation that ensues between two neighbors (Purab Kohli and Sandhya Mridul) whose lives are entwined in ways they couldn’t have ever imagined.
So as the clock strikes 3 every Sunday afternoon, be sure to tune into Zee Studio for some kick-ass desi English films.
