Don’t be afraid of the eclipse, assures Rao

The solar eclipse on Wednesday is nothing to be afraid of, assures K N Rao. The eminent astrologer has come out strongly against those who are instilling the fear of the solar eclipse in the minds of the masses. In the show, aptly named ‘Suryagrahan se Daro Mat’, on STAR News, Rao debunked the claims of such doomsdayers who predict that the most spectacular natural phenomenon is something to be afraid of. Rao strongly criticized such rabble-rousing by those who claim to profess astrology.  This is in all probability for the first time that an astrologer of the eminence of K N Rao has joined the rationalists in challenging the basis of the predictions of astrologers who claim that evil portents haunt our lives due to the solar eclipse.

Rao asserts that the branch of astrology which deals with predictions related to sun and moon signs is called ‘Hora Jyotish’, whereas the branch of astrology which deals with forecasts based on solar and lunar eclipses is called ‘Medni Jyotish’. He strongly rubbishes the claims of so-called astrologers who are predicting the effects of the eclipse on sun and moon signs. According to Rao, this kind of misinformation has been going on for generations but has been given prominence of late by ignorant sections of the media. He is of the view that bogus astrologers just want to encash this widespread misinformation.

STAR News has launched a campaign against such self-styled doomsdayers. When confronted with the claims of rationalists, these prophets of doom have always sought the cover of faith and have been claiming immunity from criticism, but challenged by personalities like K N Rao and Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on STAR News these so-called astrologers are running for cover. In fact, Baba Ramdev went a step further and sought legal action against such people fomenting “eclipse hysteria”. The Shankaracharya of Puri Peeth has welcomed the celestial event and the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth too has stressed that this natural phenomenon is nothing to be afraid of.

STAR News would telecast the images of the eclipse through the eyes of a ’100 cameras’ spread across the path of the eclipse on earth in a special live show beginning in the early hours of July 22.

I wonder from where did people like K. N. Rao get the credibility to boo-boo any doomsady prophets when he is himself no exception to the rule. Simply trying to create a false image in the minds of people that astrologers are creating a hysteria over solar eclipse. I would like to know which astrologers are running for cover due to “personalities” like K. N. Rao and Baba Ramdev taking up cudgels against the so-called eclipse hysteria. AS far as sun and moon sign predictions are concerned, they are always unastrological in nature whether one connects them with an eclipse or not. If someone was watching the whole drama with open eyes it was K. N. Rao who predicted on teh basis of this eclipse that war clouds will be there on the horizon for India. Now, what kind of eclipse fears are he dispelling? Seems like just adding to his mass appeal by calling other astrologers as frauds. WEll, most of them are, no doubt, but can K. N. Rao really say that he is not one? This, in the face of his own doomsday prediction which was doing rounds for past few yeasr that between 2002 and 2007 there is bound to be a nuclear war. Doomsday predictions need not be only ones which predict total annihilation for mankind. Now what he has to say about his own credentials as an astrologer? I am sure electronic and print media would still like to offer him undue space to promote their ratings because his popularity is unlikely to go down with a billion gullible people less a few astrologers whom he condemned being taken for a ride.
