NDTV Lumiere presents ‘The Class’
Mumbai, May 21st, 2009: NDTV Lumière brings you the thought-provoking and contemporary realistic cinema, the Oscar-Nominated Film ‘The Class’. The scripted dramatic, narrative feature’ The Class’ is about Mr. Marin (François Bégaudeau) who attempts to teach his unruly, diverse students in the midst of highly pressurized conditions. The Film of French origin will release at PVR Juhu on May 22nd, 2009.
Nominated for Best Foreign language film at the 81st Academy Awards 2009, The Class is about François and his fellow teachers who prepare for a new year at a high school in a tough neighborhood. Armed with the best intentions, they brace themselves to not let discouragement stop them from trying to give the best education to their students. Cultures and attitudes often clash in the classroom, a microcosm of contemporary France. As amusing and inspiring as the teenaged students can be, their difficult behavior can still jeopardize any teacher’s enthusiasm for the low-paying job. François insists on an atmosphere of respect and diligence. Neither stuffy nor severe, his extravagant frankness often takes the students by surprise. But his classroom ethics are put to the test when his students begin to challenge his methods.
Apart from being nominated for the Oscars, ‘The Class’ was awarded the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2008.
Directed by Laurent Cantet, ‘The Class’ is an artful, intelligent movie about modern French identity and the efforts put into transforming these bodies into thoughtful citizens, catch the inspiring movie ‘The Class’ at a PVR cinema near you.
