Kirron Kher – guest on ‘The First Ladies with Abu Sandeep’, this Saturday, Feb 21, 09 on NDTV Good Times
This week on ‘The First Ladies with Abu Sandeep’, catch Bollywood’s favorite Punjabi mom , the immensely talented and articulate Kirron Kher in conversation with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla about her husband, their Kuch Kuch Hota Hai love story, their marriage and her demands!
Some excerpts from the show:
Responding to Sandeep’s comment on her real life love story being Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kirron replies, “When Anupam and I were friends, we were actually just friends. There were no vibes… there was nothing. And, suddenly one day, the chemistry changed. In one look, it changed! I remember the time… it was in Calcutta. We had gone there to do a play and Anupam came from Delhi. He was also in the play. And I was aware of him differently.”
“I’d have never thought before that one could fall in love with your best friend. But it happened. He looked at me strangely; we said our goodbyes and something passed between us. Something did… because a little later in the evening, he knocked on my door, came in to my room and said I want to talk to you.”
“And he said I think I’m in love with you. So I said ‘My God!’ And I was very upset. I thought he was making a pass, which he probably was. But it went on… it had been said and it was there between us. So we couldn’t take it back and we became more and more aware of each other.”
Abu Jani, the show’s co-host, asks if Anupam was a rebound while Kirron was going through her divorce (with Gautam Berry), to which she replies “No. Anupam happened before my divorce. I was going through a rocky marriage. Well, not really rocky…it was not a marriage. There was nothing much to it. It was there but it wasn’t there. It wasn’t a marriage.”
On Anupam dancing to Kirron’s tune, Kirron says laughing, “No. You see Anupam is a passive aggressive. I appear more aggressive but I ultimately end up doing what he wants me to do. Because I am a chatterbox, everybody says that I am the aggressive one. But ultimately what happens in our home is exactly what Anupam wants. Because Anupam to badan pe tel laga ke nikalta hai, usko pakadna bahaut mushkil hai. Wo fisal jaata hai. (laughs). He is a slippery customer.”
When asked if there is anything she would like to tell Anupam on the show she says “Every year he says that I promise I’m going to give you more time. So, I’d like to say on record that Anupam darling – I’m waiting for it. Now is the right time for it before I become completely geriatric and I can’t move… I get arthritis… I mean, give me the time!!” (laughs)
On what upsets Kirron Kher, she says, “the undeserving getting more than they should and the deserving not getting what they should.”
