A Russian Film Festival from UTV World Movies

Bringing the world cinema closer, UTV World Movies is offering a spectacle of Russian cinema for their Indian viewers! The channel, in association with Cultural Centre of Russia has launched ‘A Festival of Russian Cinema’ at the Cultural Centre of Russia. Bringing the crème-de-la-crème of India and Russia together the inaugural ceremony witnessed the Counsel General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai – Alexander V. Mantytaky, popular Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, UTV Founder Member – Zarina Mehta and Executive Director of UGBL (Broadcasting arm of UTV) – Shantonu Aditya. The beverage partner for the event is Indage Vineyards.

Beginning February 9th, UTV World Movies will showcase Russian Culture through the choicest of movies. UTV World Movies is known for presenting worldwide accredited films by renowned filmmakers on Indian television and this festival will be dedicated to bringing the best of Russian Cinema closer home. This festival will feature prominent films namely The Suit, The Italian, Remote Access, The Wedding and Taxi Blues.

Speaking on the launch, Sameer Ganapathy, Business Head, UTV World Movies said, “Russia is well known for its culture, music, dance and films! Keeping up with our tradition to showcase the best of world cinema, we have associated with the Cultural Centre of Russia and handpicked some of the finest Russian movies of all times. Integrating both the cultures, this festival is a bid to strengthen the Indo-Russian bonds through entertainment and films. We hope that our viewers appreciate our efforts and develop a taste for Russian Cinema”

Mr. Alexandra V. Mantytaky, Consul General of the Russian Federation said, “The Cultural Centre of Russia in Mumbai has always been endeavoring to enrich the multifaceted cultural life of one of the most attractive cities of India by presenting Russian films, music and dance programmes, literary and other cultural events for the Mumbaikars to familiarize them with the cultural heritage of friendly people of Russia. We are proud that for the first time the Cultural Centre of Russia is presenting a Festival of Contemporary Russian Films in association with the leading international movie channel in India- UTV World Movies for wider audience. We hope this festival will make people aware of Russian movies and see how the various facets of present day life and culture of Russia through the medium of cinema. We look forward to continuing our cooperation with UTV World Movies in the future as well, through many more cultural events.”

The Cultural Centre of Russia, established in 1975, aims to promote Russian culture through Russian films, ballet and music shows, dance programs and literary events. It houses an art gallery, art studio, institute of Russian language, library, conference hall and an auditorium. The library has a rich collection of Russian classical literature and rare translations of Russian authors into various Indian languages.
