Weaving together myriad human emotions, the movie centers around an immigrant family fighting obstacles to realise a cherished dream. The remarkable film depicting the importance of family, will release at PVR Cinemas, Mumbai on January 30th, 2009.
‘The Secret of the Grain’ is a French film that released in the year 2007 as ‘La Graine Et Le Mulet.’ The film chronicles the story of a Tunisian immigrant in France, Slimane (Habib Boufares). Surrounded by a scattered family and a tattered personal life, he is on a mission for transformation. His dream is to convert a wrecked boat into an elite port-side restaurant, mirroring the changes he aims to bring into his own life. As the story progresses, he realizes that his family is his biggest roadblock, but more importantly, his biggest strength.
The magical storyline of ‘The Secret of the Grain’ has won accolades at international screenings and festivals across the world. Director, Abdellatif Kechiche’s style is refreshingly unique—He prefers casting non-professionals to professional actors in his films, giving ‘The Secret of the Grain’ a very raw and real touch.
Premiered to critical acclaim at the 2007 Venice International Film Festival, where it won, among others, the FIPRESCI Prize, the movie has since then won numerous awards for its writer–director and lead actress, including the Cesar Awards for Best Director, Best Film, and Most Promising Actress.
