The Amrita Film Awards which has become a much-awaited annual event to honour the best in Malayalam cinema, is scheduled to be held on Feb 21 ,2009 at Trivandrum. Since 2005,Amrita TV,as part of the Amrita Film Awards, has pioneered the Lifetime Achievement Roll of Honour in Cinema which provides a platform to recognize the invaluable contribution of known and forgotten stalwarts who played a stellar role in various aspects of cinema during their lifetime
The 5th Amrita Film Awards(AFA) 2009 will continue the tradition of recognizing cinema excellence. Every year, through a rigorous process of public voting and jury opinion,nominations are invited and shortlisted in various categories of Malayalam films. Some of the key Award categories for AFA 2009 include Film, Direction, Acting(Male/Female), Script, Music, Lyrics, Song(Male/Female), Cinematography, Editing, Costume, Art and Make-up.
Besides the conventional Award categories, Amrita TV is also examining some innovative recognitions,which will be announced soon, through jury selection. The AFA 2009 will be a gala entertainment event, with performances by noted artistes from Mumbai and Madras film industry embellishing the star studded night .Over 30,000 people are expected to attend the show to be held on Feb 21 at Chandrasekhar Stadium,Trivandrum, one of Kerala’s largest open air stadium
